7 DAYS DISTINGUISHED BIRDING SAFARI Day 1 Early in the morning after breakfast you will be transferred to the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (U.W.E.C) formerly known as the zoo to have an introduction to the birds of Uganda in a protected area. You will have a picnic Lunch at the Zoo and then in the afternoon move to the botanical gardens to search for more birds. These areas give a general view of Uganda birds. Watch out for birds like, the pied hornbill, the Yellow backed weaver, Ostrich, the great blue Turaco, Parrots, the yellow-throated leaf love, crowned cranes, pelican, orange weaver, the northern masked weaver, the shoe bill storks, black and white casqued hornbill, Ross’s Turaco, orange weaver, brown-throated weaver and the fish eagle. Dinner and overnight at Sheraton Hotel / Serena Hotel . Day 2 Have breakfast to drive off to Lake Mburo . You will have a brief stop at the Equator for photographs. Proceed to Lake Mburo to begin birding as you turn off to Nshara gate. Look out for birds like the Lilac-tailed Cisticola, pink baked Pelican, the red faced barbet and the beautiful Francolin, Helmeted Guinea fowl, Rufuos bellied heron, the Malachite, and others. Have lunch at Rwonyo to proceed for a boat ride on Lake Mburo to look out for birds- Lilac breasted roller, black tailed bustard, papyrus gonolek, brown chested lapwing, Kingfisher, papyrus yellow warbler, herons, African water rail, the lesser and greater swamp warbler and many more. Dinner and overnight at Mantana Luxury Tented Camp / Rwonyo Rest Camp. Day 3 Go for a nature walk early morning to catch up with birds like for African Drongo, Lead Coloured fly catcher, the Bare faced go a way Bird, the Yellow billed ox pecker, Blue Eared Glossy starling, and the Verreaux’s Eagle Owl. Dinner and over night at Mantana Luxury Tented Camp or Rwonyo Rest Camp. Day 4 Rise up to the sounds of the morning dove and go for a game drive along the Zebra as you watch out for birds species such as African Wattled plover, narinas trogon, deidric cuckoo, temmricks courser, rufous chested swallow, coqui Francolin, and many more. Retire from the game drive for late breakfast to proceed to Queen Elizabeth with a lunch enroute in Mbarara. Queen Elizabeth National Park is an outstanding place for bird watchers to have a stop with over 600 species with great management. Dinner and a night at Mweya Safari Lodge / Institute of Ecology Hostel . Day 5 Have a cup of coffee to go for an early morning game drive to catch up with early risers. You will go through the Kasenyi track and Kikorongo crater area and you will be able to view birds like weavers, the rupells griffon vulture and martial eagle. Return from the game drive to have late breakfast and lunch. Later in the afternoon go for a launch trip on the Kazinga channel to look out for water birds such as papyrus gonolek, pallid harrier, gull billed tern, African skimmer, great snipe, Madagascar pond heron, lesser kestrel and the rare shoe bill stork. You also see animals like Hippos, elephants, leopard, and the comical warthog. Dinner and over night Mweya Safari Lodge / Institute of Ecology Hostel . Day 6 Go for a forest walk in Maramagambo forest to search for bird species like the bat hawks, Sulphur breasted bush shrike, brown eared woodpecker, Eurasian golden oriole, the dark capped yellow warbler, fawn breasted Waxbill, red headed blue bill, and the African Fin foot. You will also view monkeys. Dinner and overnight Mweya Safari Lodge/ Institute of Ecology Hostel . Day 7 Depart from the park through the crater lakes region- lake Katwe crater where you will sight wagtails, swallows and warblers enroute. You will have short look at the traditional methods of making salt and then proceed to Kampala . Dinner and overnight at Sheraton Hotel / Serena Hotel . |
