Entebbe
Situated on the shores of Lake Victoria,
Entebbe
is a fascinating, verdant town that was once the capital of
Uganda
during the early years of British protectorate. It is some 35km south of
Kampala
and emanates an atmosphere of tropical indolence, and –particularly for those with a strong interest in natural history (and who aren’t looking for budget accommodation)-it makes for an altogether more attractive introduction to
Uganda
than the capital. Although you stay in Kampala, this pretty lakeshores town is worth a visit if only for its excellent botanical garden, which is teeming with birds and practically guarantees close-up views of black-and –white colobus monkeys.
This is the gate way for most visitors to
Uganda
. Situated on
Lake Victoria
at 3800ft above sea level. It is a traditional lake shore town with lovely tree-lined avenues. The
Entebbe
wildlife Educational Centre, a show piece of Ugandan fauna, particularly Chimpanzees and Birds, is to be found where, as is the
Entebbe
botanical gardens first developed from a natural forest in 898.
Entebbe
is liked by a modern tarred road to
Kampala
40 km away.
