Uganda, Rwanda and Congo

If you’re interested in mountaineering, Uganda provides a number of good routes from the snow covered Rwenzori Mountain, in the protected area of Rwenzori national park and is the World’s Heritage Centre- that offer a very unique experience  of lifetime at its highest peak standing 5,119m this mountain also know as “the mountains of the moon” because of its snow cover. Climbing options in days can be arranged with Abeam Safaris Uganda in advance. shorter trips can also be arranged however they do not reach the highest peak from 1- 4 days and long time climbing from 6 to 9 days to complete the hiking circuit on this mountain. On the Eastern route of Uganda trail, easy to climb Mount Elgon (4321m) have some excellent trails for hiking ranging from 3 to 7 days it also includes the siipi water falls below the mountain in Kapchrwa district and the others are found in South-western that you will either decide to cross the borders to the northern border of Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)  or just remain in Uganda to climb are the Virunga Mountains which are a chain of volcanoes in East Africa. These mountains ranges are a branch of the Albertine Rift of the Great Rift Valley. They are located between Lake Edward and Lake Kivu.

They consist of eight major volcanoes. Most of them are dormant, except Mount Nyiragongo 3,462 metres (11,358 ft) and Mount Nyamuragira 3,063 metres (10,049 ft), both in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Recent eruptions occurred in 2006, and in January, 2010. Mount Karisimbi at 4,507 metres (14,787 ft), is the highest volcano. The oldest mountain is Mount Sabyinyo which rises 3,634 metres (11,923 ft), and Mt Muhavura (4127m) above sea level.
